Laborious and slow

I bought this booked based on the fact I love the way JK wrote Harry Potter - I persisted through unfortunately this is the 1st book in as long as I can recall that I had to skip through, it was long winded and hard work, the last 3 chapters were possibly the least boring - This will possibly become a classic forcing A level students to have to read in a few years to come - not a book to be un put-down more of a don't want to pick it up

Every Small Town

Everyone who grew up in Smalltown England will recognise the people and places, the friendships and enemies. You will recognise all the secrets and pains hidden behind closed doors. It can lay to rest guilty feelings and also resurrect some. As the characters reveal themselves you realise that you liked some people you once thought you didn't - and conversely, you despise some people you once considered friend-material.

The Casual Vacancy

This is the first time I have ever read a JK Rowling book and it probably won't be the last. Nothing like I expected. A gritty no nonsense book with a touch of realism. The Story begins with the death of Councillor Barry Fairbrother opening up a casual vacancy which leads to tensions between different sides - the Pagford middle classes and the residents of the council estates of the Field. This opens up a complete can of worms with disastrous and tragic results. Central to the theme is how Barry Fairbrother touches the lives of all the main characters in the book and the repurcussions that stem from his death. Lots of very powerful characters in the book that will be hard to forget. Would love a sequel to this!
